Item Upgrades: A Simple Definition

Path of Exile Item Upgrades Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes. Rare-grade equipment is often superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements. Armor Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrades from the items. The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon will absorb is contingent on the extent of its upgrades. The damage absorption of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. But, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before. There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. Certain upgrades give armor an extra amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as shown in the table below. Some upgrades are magic or a hybrid of technology and magic, which is indicated by a “Magic” or “Hybrid” entry in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges to use. These are identified as “Charges” entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades refresh every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade. Iron Ore is the cheapest method to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive, but can be found at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can provide a significant improvements in stats and are a worthwhile cost, especially for single-handed weapons. The player should be aware, however, that upgrading a piece to its max upgrade level will increase its defense values. However, it can also reduce its agility and its speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades. Weapons Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain weapons come with special upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. item upgrader (improves stability, and reduces weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples. The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either finishing side quests, killing a certain amount of bosses or monsters, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine. Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars are required to complete it. The cost of upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials. In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. In the past you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher quality. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would reset. You can still do this, however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You're better off buying gear that has low levels of upgrade, but high base scores and stat distributions. These will be able to give you the highest tier benefits and blessings. To increase their level faster, most players will prioritize upgrading their weapons. In addition to these, players should consider upgrading the weapons they use with their squadmates to make them more powerful as well. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when used in conjunction by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali. Jewels Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be made through a process called jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gemstone and several ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the level of the gem, the better its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold. The Jeweler can enhance the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel, it will provide a different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry. The Jeweler can craft all tiers of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones which you must be at a certain level to get. Like other upgrade components jewels are able to be swapped with another jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment. Utilizing more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother, and is often performed for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't damage them as easily. In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades, the player can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool. Trinkets Trinkets can provide your hero with many small, but valuable, benefits. They are available in the starting area as loot or personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors and by completing road interaction. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers. The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. Then, they can get amulets, rings, and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets. These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This enables the hero to be more effective when not active and also helps make up for a lack of a solid team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats. A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one important stat than two sub-optimal ones. Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand will pick either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map. In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets that form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
